The newly built theatre in Brooklyn honoring Shakespeare opened its doors in 2013 with Julie Taymor’s imaginative stage production of Shakespeare’s popular play, which was soon after recreated as a full-length feature film. Taymor, the award-winning director of the Lion King, Spiderman and Frida, is renowned for her innovative and visually exciting Shakespeare plays and films. Theatre for a New Audience helped launch her directing career in the 1970s and produced both the stage and movie adaptations, starring Kathryn Hunter as Puck.
Monica was instrumental in raising $66 Million to build the Shakespeare Polonsky Centre theatre, as Chair of Major Gifts, and backed this Theatre for a New Audience production as a long-serving member of the Executive Board.
