The National Enquirer is a mass market American tabloid newspaper founded in 1926.  In the mid 1970s it enjoyed massive circulation and became known for its investigative journalism but also for hard-to-believe pieces on UFOs and celebrities.  Today it focusses on celebrity gossip and photos.

Monica was offered a job as stringer for the National Enquirer in 1975 when she first landed in New York, while awaiting her job to start at the United Nations.  Over a period of 4 months, she initiated and wrote articles on foundling babies, on legislation to encourage recycling, on thefts of armaments from military bases, on the hidden influence of lobbyists in Washington, and other investigative stories.
